Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under home confinement.

The former head of state was sentenced of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in incarceration, but he continued under house arrest pending appeals.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after recent developments emerged.

This involved trying to remove his ankle monitor and a invitation to a public vigil that could facilitate a possible escape.

Court Filing Details Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the detention, the judge said intelligence from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's "intention to break the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his escape.
