Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized the Russian player won his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's first championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since spring of 2023.

Success also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was finished.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour championship, took control to force a third set.

Moutet saved 4 early opportunities in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
