Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state initial examinations show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the incident rendered him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
